Befriending Scheme - Friends R
Us
Beeston Volunteer
Centre provides a Befriending Scheme for socially isolated people
in their own homes. "Friends R Us" provides volunteers to visit,
and offer companionship, on a regular weekly basis.
This service is
given by a small team of dedicated volunteers who have registered
with the Centre, and have been through the Criminal Record Bureau
checking system These Volunteers are fully supported in their
befriending role and training is offered.
Referrals are received
from many areas including statutory bodies, relatives, professional
health workers and self-referrals. More volunteers are needed
for this valuable service and we have people waiting for volunteers
at the present time. If you feel you could listen and chat to
an older person for about an hour a week - we would love to hear
from you.

a week. The call is of a social nature, about 5 minutes long,
ensuring the person is OK and having a general chat. It is not
an advisory or counselling service but if clients request help
they are pointed in the right direction if possible.
Referrals are received from
many areas including statutory bodies, relatives, professional
health workers and self-referrals
The calls are made by volunteers
who are registered with the centre and selected for their suitability
for the role. More volunteers are needed to enable this service
